"It is not simply a good book about history. It is one of those books which makes history. ... "
-- Vladimir Bukovsky, co-founder of the Soviet dissident movement and author of Judgment in Moscow, and Pavel Stroilov, author of Behind the Desert Storm.
"Diana West is distinguished from almost all political commentators because she seeks less to defend ideas and proposals than to investigate and understand what happens and what has happened. This gives her modest and unpretentious books and articles the status of true scientific inquiry, shifting the debate from the field of liking and disliking to being and non-being."
-- Olavo de Carvalho
If you're looking for something to read, this is the most dazzling, mind-warping book I have read in a long time. It has been criticized by the folks at Front Page, but they don't quite get what Ms. West has set out to do and accomplished. I have a whole library of books on communism, but -- "Witness" excepted -- this may be the best.
-- Jack Cashill, author of Deconstructing Obama: The Lives, Loves and Letters of America's First Postmodern President and First Strike: TWA Flight 800 and the Attack on America
"Every once in a while, something happens that turns a whole structure of preconceived ideas upside down, shattering tales and narratives long taken for granted, destroying prejudice, clearing space for new understanding to grow. Diana West's latest book, American Betrayal, is such an event."
-- Henrik Raeder Clausen, Europe News
West's lesson to Americans: Reality can't be redacted, buried, fabricated, falsified, or omitted. Her book is eloquent proof of it.
-- Edward Cline, Family Security Matters
"I have read it, and agree wholeheartedly."
-- Angelo Codevilla, Professor Emeritus of International Relations at Boston Unversity, and fellow of the Claremont Institute.
Enlightening. I give American Betrayal five stars only because it is not possible to give it six.
-- John Dietrich, formerly of the Defense Intelligence Agency and author of The Morgenthau Plan: Soviet Influence on American Postwar Policy.
After reading American Betrayal and much of the vituperation generated by neoconservative "consensus" historians, I conclude that we cannot ignore what West has demonstrated through evidence and cogent argument.
-- John Dale Dunn, M.D., J.D., Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons
"A brilliantly researched and argued book."
-- Edward Jay Epstein, author of Deception: The Invisible War between the KGB and the CIA, The Annals 0f Unsolved Crime
"This explosive book is a long-needed answer to court histories that continue to obscure key facts about our backstage war with Moscow. Must-reading for serious students of security issues and Cold War deceptions, both foreign and domestic."
-- M. Stanton Evans, author of Stalin's Secret Agents and Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America's Enemies
Her task is ambitious; her sweep of crucial but too-little-known facts of history is impressive; and her arguments are eloquent and witty. ... American Betrayal is one of those books that will change the way many of us see the world.
-- Susan Freis Falknor, Blue Ridge Forum
"American Betrayal is absolutely required reading. Essential. You're sleepwalking without it."
-- Chris Farrell, director of investigations research, Judicial Watch
"Diana West wrote a brilliant book called American Betrayal, which I recommend to everybody ... It is a seminal work that will grow in importance."
-- Newt Gingrich, former House Speaker
"This is a must read for any serious student of history and anyone working to understand the Marxist counter-state in America."
-- John Guandolo, president, Understanding the Threat, former FBI special agent
It is myth, or a series of myths, concerning WW2 that Diana West is aiming to replace with history in 2013’s American Betrayal.
If West’s startling revisionism is anywhere near the historical truth, the book is what Nietzsche wished his writings to be, dynamite.
-- Mark Gullick, British Intelligence
“What Diana West has done is to dynamite her way through several miles of bedrock. On the other side of the tunnel there is a vista of a new past. Of course folks are baffled. Few people have the capacity to take this in. Her book is among the most well documented I have ever read. It is written in an unusual style viewed from the perspective of the historian—but it probably couldn’t have been done any other way.”
-- Lars Hedegaard, historian, journalist, founder, Danish Free Press Society
The polemics against your Betrayal have a familiar smell: The masters of the guild get angry when someone less worthy than they are ventures into the orchard in which only they are privileged to harvest. The harvest the outsider brought in, they ritually burn.
-- Hans Jansen, former professor of Islamic Thought, University of Utrecht
No book has ever frightened me as much as American Betrayal. ... [West] patiently builds a story outlining a network of subversion so bizarrely immense that to write it down will seem too fantastic to anyone without the book’s detailed breadth and depth. It all adds up to a story so disturbing that it has changed my attitude to almost everything I think about how the world actually is. ... By the time you put the book down, you have a very different view of America’s war aims and strategies. The core question is, did the USA follow a strategy that served its own best interests, or Stalin’s? And it’s not that it was Stalin’s that is so compelling, since you knew that had to be the answer, but the evidence in detail that West provides that makes this a book you cannot ignore.
-- Steven Kates, RMIT (Australia) Associate Professor of Economics, Quadrant
"Diana West's new book rewrites WWII and Cold War history not by disclosing secrets, but by illuminating facts that have been hidden in plain sight for decades. Furthermore, she integrates intelligence and political history in ways never done before."
-- Jeffrey Norwitz, former professor of counterterrorism, Naval War College
[American Betrayal is] the most important anti-Communist book of our time ... a book that can open people's eyes to the historical roots of our present malaise ... full of insights, factual corroboration, and psychological nuance.
-- J.R. Nyquist, author, Origins of the Fourth World War
Although I know [Christopher] Andrew well, and have met [Oleg] Gordievsky twice, I now doubt their characterization of Hopkins -- also embraced by Radosh and the scholarly community. I now support West's conclusions after rereading KGB: The Inside Story account 23 years later [relevant passages cited in American Betrayal]. It does not ring true that Hopkins was an innocent dupe dedicated solely to defeating the Nazis. Hopkins comes over in history as crafty, secretive and no one's fool, hardly the personality traits of a naïve fellow traveler. And his fingerprints are on the large majority of pro-Soviet policies implemented by the Roosevelt administration. West deserves respect for cutting through the dross that obscures the evidence about Hopkins, and for screaming from the rooftops that the U.S. was the victim of a successful Soviet intelligence operation.
-- Bernie Reeves, founder of The Raleigh Spy Conference, American Thinker
Diana West’s American Betrayal — a remarkable, novel-like work of sorely needed historical re-analysis — is punctuated by the Cassandra-like quality of “multi-temporal” awareness. ... But West, although passionate and direct, is able to convey her profoundly disturbing, multi-temporal narrative with cool brilliance, conjoining meticulous research, innovative assessment, evocative prose, and wit.
-- Andrew G. Bostom, PJ Media
Do not be dissuaded by the controversy that has erupted around this book which, if you insist on complete accuracy, would be characterized as a disinformation campaign.
-- Jed Babbin, The American Spectator
In American Betrayal, Ms. West's well-established reputation for attacking "sacred cows" remains intact. The resulting beneficiaries are the readers, especially those who can deal with the truth.

I'm currently reading The Big Dance: The Untold Story of Weatherman Kathy Boudin and the Terrorist Family that Committed the Brink's Robbery Murders by John Casetllucci. There's much to learn about Antifa and Black Lives Matter by studying some of their ideological and even inspirational forbears.
In order to break down the allure of The Weathermen faction for people such as Kathy Boudin (whose son Chesa Boudin is San Francisco district attorney), Castellucci quotes Ayers, who raised Chesa while Boudin and Chesa's father were in prison for the Brink's robbery murders. "We have one task, and that's to make ourselves into tools of the revolution ... We have to be willing to fight people...

Intrepid journalist and Antifa expert Andy Ngo recently posted a "Dear Comrades" statement on Twitter which he identified as having come from CHAZ/CHOP. (See below for complete text.)
Signed by the "Capitol Hill Occupied Protest Solidarity Project Committee" (CHOPSPC?), the statement announces the conclusion of "the CHOP project." Later comes the real news: CHOP's surreal endorsement of Joe Biden for president -- as if the democratic process was actually their thing -- as well as endorsements...

Screengrabs from video shot by The Daily Caller's Richie McGinness
Yesterday, in Washington, D.C., a guerilla organizer with a smile and a megaphone stood at the foot of a tribute to the end of slavery in America featuring Abraham Lincoln and an emancipated slave. To great hooting and applause, he made the following announcement. "On Thursday, at 7pm, we're tearing this motherf----- down."

How dare you?
You can't do that ...
That's against the law ...
You're under arrest ...
Such natural responses no longer occur to government officials -- with the possible exception of the President of the United States, whose precarious position...

I am delighted by the interest in my most recent appearance on "Crowdsource the Truth" with Jason Goodman. Two notable pickups include Conservative Treehouse and Gateway Pundit.
Although the interview is one hour, the research and reporting that made it possible span more than a decade, beginning right after 9/11. This work first appeared in my weekly syndicated newspaper column and assorted blog essays, and a good chunk of it appears in my volume of collected columns, No Fear. I invite new visitors to this website to search the archive for "COIN," "goat," "Petraeus," "MyChrystal," "tea," "Allen," "dhimmitude," "Koran," "Mortenson," "Jones," "Leavenworth," "Hatley," and the like. The results will convey a sense of the vast petri dish in which hundreds of thousands of US military were forced to sink or swim under the command of social engineering globalists in Iraq and Afghanistan. Once this largely unexamined backstory becomes better known, the fact that these same commanders are now joined in an ambush against our "American First" counter-revolutionary president makes perfect and perfectly sinister sense.

Army Chief of Staff Douglas MacArthur consults Major George S. Patton (center) on Pennsylvania Avenue, NW.
In his memoir, Reminscences, General Douglas MacArthur provides an illuminating account of the Bonus Army riots in the summer of 1932, which, as Army Chief of Staff, he would help quell after District of the Columbia requested assistance.
MacArthur's account highlights some striking similarities with recent Black LIves Matter/Antifa rioting in the nation's capital, especially when it comes to his overview of the tense situation in these final months of the Herbert Hoover administration.
In 1964, MacArthur wrote:
In these days of wholehearted unity, it is hard to believe that thirty years ago the President of the United States lived in danger, and the Congress shook with fear at the sight and sound of the marchers. It is hard to believe, too, that...

It's not every day seven years after publication that a new book review appears, but such was my happy surprise: British Intelligence, a new online magazine, has just published a review of American Betrayal by Mark Gullick in its June 2020 issue.

This is the second of a four-part series, Writing the Resistance, the first of which featured David Horowitz and links naturally to our second subject, American columnist and author Diana West. West is the author of The Death of the Grown-Up,...

A tweet from @uyghur_groyper alerted me to the eye-catching document above. It is described by @JianRen12 as "Chinese Communist Party's Announcement to support African American Resistance, 1968."
Not reading a word of Chinese, I can't evaluate it. I can, however, link to a 1968 declaration by Chairman Mao, recently referenced by Cliff Kincaid here, titled, "Support for the Afro-American Struggle Against Violent Repression." The map above looks more like a battle plan of action and it is hard not to see the similarities to a map of American cities finally on fire more than 50 years later.
Now for a possible update on Chinese strategy...

This is a post for "family" -- readers of this blog, and especially longtime readers of this blog, who will be able to hearken back to The Disinformation Wars on American Betrayal.
As some will have noticed, I have not been publishing much of late in the Epoch Times. Until quite recently, this was due to the fact that I have not been writing much of late either, having been consumed by private matters for some months. My April 12 column, "When Grand Juries Are Not So Grand," was my first contribition since February 3, which was my first contribution since December 22, 2019. I think it was probably also my last.

Back in October 2019, I abandoned an essay I had begun about Andy McCarthy's book, Ball of Collusion, regarding his statement of faith in the Intelligence Community/Mueller Report finding that "Russia" "hacked" the DNC. As many will recall, the evidence for this finding is a redacted draft report submitted to the FBI by a DNC contractor, Crowdstrike.
After the recent release of December 2017 testimony of Crowdstrike co-founder (and Mueller protege) Shawn Henry in which Henry admits that Crowdstrike had no evidence for this foundational charge, I found myself thinking about that essay fragment (below), and wondering about all the corrections (including in McCarthy's book) that become mandatory to straighten out a badly twisted record. These corrections are not happening, however. Nor is anyone asking why this vital House testimony remained locked away from public sight...

I can't think of a better word than "blithering" to describe Conrad Black's writings about FDR, especially in conservative publications.
His writings about American Betrayal and Yours Truly, however, are something else again but I haven't found the apt word to encapsulate the crude, pompous and vicious streak in him that my work has magically inspired.
To wit:
Diana West, a right-wing loopy who has occasionally aroused cautious hopefulness that she has been house-trained, has published a novel presented as a non-fiction work, entitled “American Betrayal." ... The West farrago of lies has been thoroughly debunked, especially by Ron Radosh...

Messaging on Twitter in these corona times is revealing all kinds of new fissures. Take the Twitter account of OANN's Jack Posobiec. Having racked up around 750K followers on Twitter, Posobiec has perplexed some conservatives of late for having come out as an enthusiast for the corona lockdown and for Bill Gates. This is something of a redundancy since Bill Gates is the Big Daddy of Corona Lockdown, at least until the economy is completely dead and the New Vaccine Order begins.

In these same corona times, more tweets in defense of Bill Gates caught my eye -- in this case by David Horowitz. This became a little interesting on learning, also via Twitter, that Horowitz was a mentor of Posobiec.
Like mentor, like mentored?

Motivation? Agenda? Ideology? Profit motive? Subversion? Conspiracy? All of the above and more?
Nah, the assassination of Caesar was just dumb luck.

Julie Kelly's "Time to Sideline False Prophets of Doom" makes the case in less sweeping fashion but "good intentions," "poor planning" are surely tattered placeholders by this advanced, low point.

According to this priceless report in The Guardian from November 30, 2017, Chinese state media described the meeting between Barack Obama and Xi, which took place two weeks after President Trump's state visit to Beijing, as a meeting of "veteran cadres."
If you are a lifelong communist, "veteran cadre" is a term of veneration. If you are a former president if the United States, "veteran cadre" is a term of treason.
The Guardian put it this way:
Chinese media fawned over Obama and Xi, dubbing the pair `veteran cadres', a term typically applied to retired Communist officials. But in a sign of the diplomatic sensitivity, Chinese state media reported on the event in a single terse article.
Western media mirrored...

Frontpagemag recently posted a story about a letter Sen. Elizabeth Warren wrote on behalf of Robert Meeropol and his family to President Barack Obama in which she asked Obama to issue a presidential proclamation exonerating Meeropol's mother, Ethel Rosenberg.
Yes, that Ethel Rosenberg. Along with husband Julius, Ethel Rosenberg and a ring of communist espionage agents did whatever they could (along with many others) to make sure Josef Stalin had the atomic bomb for his arsenal.
This was not just about Kremlin bragging rights. Archive records show that possession of "the Bomb" gave Stalin the confidence to trigger the Korean War. Further, other technologies stolen by the "Rosenberg Ring" would be weaponized against Americans in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. The carnage, pain, destruction and loss unleashed on the world by these secret agents of Stalin is beyond...

When President Donald Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity that he believes the Democrats’ frontrunner, Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, is a communist, the president clarified “you could say socialist,” but then again, “I think of Bernie sort of as a socialist but far beyond a socialist.”
As the pundits trip over poli-sci-class definitions, my question is what’s the difference?
As far as freedom-lovers go, safeguarding our liberties guaranteed by the Constitution, there is none. To be sure, communists and socialists argue and split hairs. They fight and break heads. But they also work together and destroy liberty because they all travel to the same soul-crushing destination of collectivism.

I have finally developed an axiom about Sen. Joseph McCarthy: The more one learns about McCarthy -- facts, not the catechism of lies continuously recited like some demonic liturgy -- the more one despises the mindset that reviles him.
If that sounds harsh, it is not a hasty formulation. In fact, after many years of thinking about McCarthy matters, it strikes me as the most natural reaction to the thinking of writers and educators who don't want to know better, and the politicians who echo them. This mindset -- "conventional wisdom" -- fills the atmosphere with so much static, and gives cover to "experts" whose specialty is strangling the life out of truth.
So widespread is this mindset, however, that it is widely shared by notable American conservatives. These are McCarthy's latter-day allies and supporters -- that is, were they ever wake up from a chronic case of brainwashing (inspired by Stalin's Kremlin) and realize it. Until then, they wander the public square, participating in communist-inspired rituals of anti-communist revilement. McCarthy destroyed innocent lives ... bullied free-thinkers ... didn't have a list ... never found a communist ... unleashed "McCarthyism." From the anti-communist perspective, the spectacle of "lost" allies, marching in step with the opposition while chanting its disinformation, is a strategic disaster.

It is amazing to learn how much the East German intelligence agency Stasi spied on and influenced British politics. The Stasi was a kind of branch office for the KGB, a placeholder for Moscow (like Ukrainian operators would seem to be a placeholder for Moscow today), and, according to Anthony Glees, the top British expert on the subject, "Britain and especially London were riddled with Stasi spies of one kind or another."
Glees' quotation is from his 2003 book, The Stasi Files: East Germany's Secret Operations Against Britain, which focuses on the decade spanning 1979 to 1989, the year that East Germany dissolved itself. For ten years, from 1992 to 2002, scholars like Glees were able to study such nefarious matters inside the the Stasi archive, which, for that golden-opportunity-decade, was "the only security and intelligence service archive in the world ... open to scholars."
